The International Food and Wine Festival is one of the many events that Disney World has to offer. Starting on October 1st you can taste different dishes from the United States all the way to Greece....Be sure to taste as many things as you can because the menu's change weekly. The best part about working for Disney is that I can go every week on my days off and try something completely different. I am really sad to say that I was only able to try the Chocolate Creme Brulee from France when I went to Epcot on Monday due to a nasty headache that I got. :/

I can't wait to go to Epcot when my Mom and Memere are in town because I will definitely try EVERYTHING that I can get my hands on. :)

A Dedication Blog for my manager... Walt Disney

"To all that come to this happy place: welcome. Disneyland is your land. Here age relives fond memories of the past, and here youth may savor the challenge and the promise of the future. Disneyland is dedicated to ideals, the dreams, and the hard facts that have created America.... with home that it will be a source of joy and inspiration to all the world." -- Walt Disney's opening anouncement when Disneyland opened in 1955.

"I've always said that there will never another Disneyland, and I think it's going to work out that way. But it will be the equivalent of Disneyland. We know the basic things that have family appeal. There are many ways that you can use those certain basic things and give them a new decor, a new treatment. This here will have to be something unique, so there is distinction between Disneyland in California and whatever Disney does in Florida." -- Walt Disney

"Why do we grow up? I know more adults who have the children's approach to life. They're people who don't give a hang to what the Joneses do. You see them at Disneyland every time you go there. They are not afraid to be delighted with simple pleasures, and they have a degree of contentment with what life has brought -- sometimes it isn't much, either." -- Walt Disney

"I only hope we don't lose sight of one thing -- that it was all started by a mouse." -- Walt Disney

Walt Disney was such a great guy who loved families and desired to provied a fun place for them to act as a family full of children:). He never focused on the sales of the Disney Company when Disneyland opened which I think made him successful. He focused on the service that he wanted his Cast Members to portray. He always thought that you are always "on stage" when you were on your break, working, walking to work, and leaving work. He loved the whole idea of everyone (Cast Members) wearing costumes. He provided a safe place for families to get together and have fun whether it meant riding rides, meeting characters, and even walking through the front gates onto Main Street, U.S.A.

When Magic Kingdom in Florida was "almost" completed, he wanted to the middle part of Cinderella's Castle to be his apartment/condo for his family. He died before he could see his new home. He died before Epcot was finished. He died before he could see the way Walt Disney World is today...

* Magic Kingdom
* Epcot
* MGM/Hollywood Studios
* Animal Kingdom
* Downtown Disney
* Twenty-four Disney Resorts
* Disney Transportation
* And more...

The way Walt Disney World is today is all because of a man who didn't want to grow up. All because of a man who wanted families to have fun. All because of a man who pulled through people telling him that he couldn't do it.

Now look where his vision is today...

* Disneyland, three resorts, Downtown Disney, and California Adventure
* Disney World, twenty-four resorts, Downtown Disney, Four Theme Parks, and two Water Parks.
* Disneyland Paris
* Disneyland Tokyo

"Why are you working for Disney?"

People have never been able to understand why working for Disney has always been a dream of mine.

"It's too childish, Bethany."

"You need to grow up."

"Disney is only for kids."

It's too childish, Bethany.

I love Disney.

You need to grow up.

What if I don't want leave Disney behind? I refuse to grow up... Peter Pan never wanted to grow up. ;)

Disney is only for kids.

Then why do I see college kids, grown ups, tour groups, and many other people in high school, college, and after college guests spend week after week in Disney?

Why do you work for Disney?

I work for Disney because I get to see God's gift of family walk through the main gates of Disney's Hollywood Studios every single day. Families who want to celebrate new beginnings such as new engagements, new marriages, their anniversary, a family reunion... Even seeing families who are sponsored by the Make-a-Wish, Give Kids the World, or many other foundations... Those kids will probably never be able to come back to Disney again because of their terminal illness. I cry every day when a character spends THIRTY MINUTES with a child from those foundations. They want to make their vacation memorable because of the hard times they are going through already. Disney even lets them cut in front of EVERYONE because they don't want them to wait anymore.

I work for Disney because it has given me great communication abilities for when I find new jobs in the future. This internship will definitely help my resume when I go home to find a great job.

I work for Disney because Disney, to me, is a family that will always support you. My fellow Cast Members are considered family to me. I work with an older gentleman who has been a father figure to me since I don't see my dad every day. He has encouraged me when I got the flu when i first arrived. He has encouraged me when I was nervous about working on my own without a trainer nearby. He has encouraged me when I got the flu this past week. Well...the same goes for pretty much everybody at DHS.

I work for Disney because my character pals give me hugs all the time. They know that i work for Disney when I play in the parks because they give me the BEST CHARACTER HUGS EVER! It's funny how they recognize you if you constantly work character shifts.:) I love you Chip and Dale! <3

Lastly, I work for Disney because Walt Disney was and will always be the greatest human being I have ever worked for. He may not be here on this earth, but he is still very much alive every time you walk through the gates of the Magic Kingdom onto Main Street, U.S.A. He is very much alive when you walk through A One Man's Dream to see his actual drawings of characters, etc. He is very much alive when you walk through EPCOT (Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow). He is very much alive when you drive onto Disney Property for the first, second, and even nineteenth time.

Why Do We Have To Grow Up?

I don't know about you guys... but i have refused to grow up since the first time I met Mickey Mouse in 1994. <3

***Consider this blog to be a blog all about Walt Disney. <3

Sick on the Disney College Program?

Well, I don't know if I told y'all this or not, but my first week down here was when I came down with the FLU! Um...it's not flu season? How is that possible? Do people not use hand sanitizer? 0.o It was HORRIBLE! I got my first two points because of that stupid flu! :(

My Mom is down here now... I worked until 2:45 on Saturday, July 17th. We were having a blast! We rode Tower of Terror so my Mom could experience the new drop sequence. I introduced her to my fellow Cast Members in the View. We watched the Block Party Bash. Everything was fine up until Sunday afternoon...

We went to church in the morning....fine.

We went to lunch at at Abuelo's Mexican Restaurant...ehh iffy.

Shopped for thirty minutes...not so good.

My Mom started to feel sick.
Sunday night I took her to a Night Care Place where they diagnosed her with STREP! :(
I caught it on Monday, July 19th... UGH!

I'm still not 100& yet. I have to work tomorrow. My Mom is here until Sunday. I can't afford to be sick any longer!

Just a word of advice to y'all coming down in a few weeks: BE SURE TO TAKE YOUR VITAMINS EVERY SINGLE DAY...OR ELSE THIS HAPPENS^ 0.o

I can't wait to meet y'all FAll 2010 CPers in a few weeks!

First Hat Sets + MOM VISITS = AWESOME

=]

Hey y'all! :)

Sunday, July 11th was my first hat set for character shifts! I was really nervous about messing the schedule up because no one trained me on how to work hat sets. I ended up asking a few PhotoPass Cast Members how things with the character rotations work. Well, when I logged into CDS, I was assigned to Hat 5 Chip and Dale! :D I could not have asked for a better assignment because Chip and Dale are my favorite! The hat sets started at 9:15 and ended at 12:30 when we had our lunch break. I was sent to VIP Mickey for thirty minutes before they assigned me to Hat Left because they were short of people for icon shifts.

This past week has been such a once in a lifetime experience when it comes to celebrities. I took pictures of Monique (from the movie Precious) and her family when I was assigned to Mike and Sulley from Monsters Inc. Well, I never watched the movie... I am not familiar with her work at all. I think I only recognized her face because she was interviewed on the red carpet during the Academy Awards. She was SOO nice and SOO patient with me and my camera problems... Did I mention that her kids were adorable?!

I think yesterday was probably THE best experience yet because of what one of the Character Attendants told us secretly.. :) I was told that the prince from the Prince of Persia movie was going to come our way to visit Mickey! I immediately assumed that it was going to be JAKE GYLLENHAAL! haha :) It turns out that they were mistaken..dun..dun..dun.. haha. :) I ended up taking pictures of a prince from Saudi Arabia! Umm...yeah...indescribable! haha

My Mom is either driving or taking the Auto Train down on Friday, July 16th to visit me for a week. I am beyond thankful that I got to switch shifts with my coworker Kevin for his 8:30 to 4:30 shift! Before that switch happened, we were going to have to postpone seeing each other on Sunday instead of Saturday because I was going to get off at 10:15.. that would mean that we wouldn't get back to our friends house until 11:30 or midnight the same night. God definitely worked through that situation!

So...

Saturday: Work from 8:30 to 4:30
Meet my Mom at 4:30
Have an early dinner before driving to our friends house

Sunday: Church
Lunch, shopping, etc.. haha

Monday: CHECK-IN AT THE FRENCH QUARTER RESORT
PARK
DINNER AT THE 1900 CHARACTER DINNER

Tuesday: PARKS!

Wednesday: Check out... :(
PARKS

Thursday: Back to work when my Mom will still be here... sad face. :(

MY MOM IS COMING! MY MOM IS COMING! MY MOM IS COMING! MY MOM IS COMING! MY MOM IS COMING! -sigh- MY MOM IS COMING! MY MOM IS COMING! MY MOM IS COMING! MY MOM IS COMING!

haha :)

Talk to y'all later!

Staying Busy!

Hey guys!

First off, I want to apologize for not updating my blog on a regular basis... I usually have 7 1/2 hour shifts to 9 hour shifts every day. I have been soo exhausted that I just haven't been in the mood to update this blog! Did I mention that I have to update my vlog as well?

0.0

....

Let's see how that goes! haha :)

Check-In Day

Check-in day was a rather fast process! Check-in started at 9:00 AM on Wednesday, May 19th, but my parents made sure that I arrived an hour early. I met one of my apartment mates in line before meeting everyone else a few hours later once they got out of Casting. We managed to get the complex we wanted (Chatham), room size (4 bedrooms; 8 people), and amazing roommates! I am beyond thankful that we all mesh together so well. :D

The rest is confidential. :)

Training for PhotoPass!

My first two training days started at Disney's Animal Kingdom Business Complex. The first day was about the basic outdoor and indoor camera settings such as ISO, metering, battery power, etc. My two trainers also ran over the Disney Basics for the new Disney Cast Member slogan: Safe-D Begins with Me! :)

My second day was about how to hold, operate, and use troubleshooting techniques with our Nikon cameras. We got to look at pictures from past PhotoPass CPers for future reference purposes. I cried when I looked at a few because I knew that I was going to make a child smile as they meet Mickey Mouse for the first time! I can finally be apart of a child's dream... That is definitely something to be excited about!

Third day of training was at Disney's Hollywood Studios! Did I mention that my home park IS Hollywood Studios? :) It was a lot of fun because my trainer let me go out for an hour to practice on park guests!

Once my training period was over, nerves started to hit me hard because the next day was my first day on the job by myself.

DAY ONE TO PRESENT! :D

I was really excited to finally start taking pictures of guests by myself without a trainer watching me nearby. Every job has their moments, right? Well, I am really frustrated with some of my pictures because they either show up crooked, t close, or blurry. I do believe that I am getting used to the weight of the camera now... we'll see what the week looks like ahead! :)

Stay tuned for more blog updates!

2 Days!

I just want to let y'all know that I plan on sticking with this blog regularly while working for Mickey Mouse! The past week has been crazy because some of my professors are giving me unexpected things to accomplish before I leave on Saturday (those things are officially done).

I can't believe that this new step in my life is already here! Mother's Day was definitely an emotional day because it was my last Sunday in Maryland... but it was my last Sunday to see all of my close friends at one time! Tears fel from eyes like a waterfall that night.

Clean. Best Buy. School. Mocha run :). Doctor's. U-Turn. Home.

...gotta love wednesdays, right?...

Any suggestions on ways to make my vlogs/blogs more exciting? Comment below so that I can take your ideas into consideration! :)

Why I haven't updated...

Hey all! :)

School has been keeping me busy since my last blog update to the point where I can no longer upload vlogs/blogs... At least I'm writing one now! :)

Tomorrow will be exactly 25 days until I make the big move down to Orlando for the Walt Disney World College Program! :D I still can't believe that I got in. I still can't believe that I will be leaving Maryland for 7 months (a year if i want to extend). I can't believe that I will be miles away from my family and friends... I guess that gives y'all a reason to visit me. ;) haha

Even though I won't see my friends and family for months on end, I still plan on staying in touch with them on a daily basis.

Did you find a roommate yet, Bethany?

That question seems to be on everyone's mind right now. :) My roommate for the college program is such an amazing Girl with a heart for the Lord. Having her as a roommate has been a huge answer to prayer... a huge answer. I can't wait to meet her in person when check in day arrives! :D

ACCEPTED!

I never did write a blog on Monday after I got accepted...

I got accepted on Monday, March 15th at around 1:30/2:00 in the afternoon. It was a pretty early day for me because I had to get up to take our Saturn to the store for them to check it...bleh. My dad bought me breakfast from Chick-fil-a before I went downstairs and watched America's Funniest Home Videos before going back to bed.

1:00...

1:30...

2:00...

"Bethany."
"What?"
"Bethany?"
"What?"
"You got something in the mail from the Disney recruiting office."

=]

I literally jumped out of my bed and ran directly for my dad as he held my a white envelope in his hands. I began screaming because I knew that it was the PURPLE FOLDER!

"Don't get overly excited... It's probably not what you think it is."

I screamed, jumped up and down, and ran around my house as soon as I saw the folder with my own two eyes for the first time! Did I mention that I cried for a good hour afterwards? :)

This has been a dream of mine since I was a little girl to work for Walt Disney World. I know my way around Disney World as if I lived there... Being a Photopass Photographer for the FA is just the icing on the cake!

Next blog/vlog will be about finding roommates/wanting more roommates for the Chattam apartments!

Dream It.Do It. Disney. <33

Have a Magical Day! :D

Day 46

When will I get my answer? :( When I called Disney a few days ago, the lady on the phone told me that I should have gotten my email for the fall/FA term awhile ago... Part of me thinks that she basically told me that I got accepted. -crosses fingers- If I want to leave around May 19th for the program if they decide to accept me for this term. I'm planning on calling them on Wednesday if I don't ear anything before the waiting game turns into 7 weeks... 0.0

Sorry for the short update!

Day 38

Still waiting... Nothing in the mail... A few of my CP friends got rejected...

1. Still waiting

Waiting really does suck! haha :) I have a funny feeling that I will get one of those small letters in the mail known as the rejection letter. Staying positive is really hard when so many people are getting accepted after waiting a week since their interview date. I believe that is kind of an unfair way if people have been waiting for a long time. Maybe its because this is my first time applying so I haven't really figured out the notifying process. I'm going to Howard Community College on Monday, March 8th at 3:00 for the campus presentation to try to hear there what my status is. I have a few questions that I want to ask the campus rep in person as well. I just really hope that I get in because getting rejected is something that will not sit well with me at all...

2. Nothing in the mail(or sad surprises)

I haven't even gotten a letter from Disney telling me that I have been pending for the past couple of weeks (I called them and was told that I was pending).

3. A few friends from the CP application process got rejected

Shane Messick, a nearby Marylander, got rejected yesterday from his pending status. I was so heartbroken to hear that that I was actually planning on things to do with him down in Florida! :( We're big into HSM... just use your imagination as to where I want to go with that. :) haha I just want to wish him the best as he continues to pursue his dream of working for Walt Disney World!

Day 31

Hey guys! :)

I just want to keep you posted on this whole waiting period. It has been a little over a month since I had my phone interview with Disney. The nerves are swelling deep inside of me at this point...

I've been trying to work on my film project this weekend like a crazy animal hoping to forget about Disney to calm me down. I am still surprised that trying to forget about the CP by doing something active just makes me want to find out even sooner! I hope and I pray that I get accepted because this has ALWAYS been my dream!

Formspringme! :)

Ask me anything! :)

Day 26

I HATE this waiting game! :(

I woke up a few hour ago and decided to call Disney to see where I am in the decision making process. My email has been acting a little funky with emails, so I was little paranoid this past week when more and more people got emails. =[

The girl on the phone told that I am still pending and that I will not necessarily be notified by email. Guess what I did two times within the past 30 minutes? :) No mail the first. Mail the second time. Nothing from Disney.

I hope to hear back from Disney soon!

Waiting... Waiting... Waiting...

Hey guys!

Tomorrow afternoon will be exactly my 3 week mark since my phone interview for the Walt Disney World College Program for 2010! This waiting game is really starting to get the best of me now that people are getting accepted everyday... Sure, I am BEYOND thrilled for everyone on getting their purple acceptance e-mails, but it would be nice to hear back from Disney within the next couple of days. (My Valentine's day was kinda boring, so I was hoping to get the best Valentine's Day present of a lifetime from Disney... :[ )

I went back to school today after being off for a week due the snow. It was nice to finally drive again and see my friends walking from my two classes in one building to another class on the other side of campus.

"Purple! Purple! Purple!"

My mind was focused on getting that purple e-mail that I forgot what my English professor told us to do! =/

Continue to believe in the purple! :)

Happy Valentine's Day!

Happy Valentine's Day to my fellow CPers!

It's been a little over an hour since my mi madre and grandmother made such a DELICIOUS dinner for our family. I was so excited about it that I just had to write another entry with the recipes for you guys to share with your friends and family!

Conghilie with Clams and Mussels
Recipe courtesy Giada De Laurentiis

Ingredients
1 pound conghilie (small shells) pasta
1 pound broccoli, cut into florets (about 4 cups)
1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil
3 cloves garlic, minced
1/8 teaspoon kosher salt
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1 pound mussels, debearded
1 pound small littleneck clams, scrubbed
1 cup white win
1/3 cup chopped fresh flat-leaf parsley

Directions
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil over high heat. Add the pasta and cook for 6 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add the broccoli into the pasta water and continue cooking until the pasta is tender but still firm to the bite, and the broccoli is blanched, about 2 to 3 minutes. Drain pasta and broccoli, reserving 1 cup of the cooking liguid.

Meanwhile, in a large, heavy skillet heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the garlic, red pepper flakes, salt and pepper and saute for 3 minutes. Add the clams, mussles, and wine. Cook for 5 minutes, making sure all the shells have opened. Discard any shells that remain closed. Sprinkle with parsley.

In a large bowl, toss together the pasta, broccoli, and shellfish. Add the reserved pasta water, 1/4 cup at a time, to moisten. Toss to combine. Transfer to a serving platter and serve immediately.

"Moderation. Small helpings. Sample a little bit of everything. These are the secrets of happiness and good health." -- Julia Child

Why would I be the perfect roommate for you?

I love to cook! :)

While you gals are working in the parks, I will be working in the kitchen making our apartment smell devine. Can you smell the aroma already?

Paula Dean has AMAZING recipes and one of them would have to be her Pine Bark recipe! What is Pine Bark? Just preheat your oven and follow the directions because you won't want to miss out on this!

Ingredients:
35 saltine crackers
1 cup butter
1 cup packed light brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon almond extract (I like to use Vanilla)
5 (4-ounce) milk chocolate bars, broken into pieces (Or you can use chips)

Directions:
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.

Line a 15 by 10 by 1-inch jelly roll pan with tin foil. Lightly spray foil with a non-stick cooking spray.

Place saltine crackers, salty side up, in prepared pan. In a saucepan, boil butter and sugar for 2 to 3 minutes, stirring constantly. Remove from heat and stir in almond extract. Pour mixture over crackers and bake for 4 to 6 minutes. Remove from oven, top with candy bars, and spread evenly as chocolate begins to melt. Cool slightly and transfer onto waxed paper. Allow to cool completely.

The finished product! =]

The Waiting Game

I don't have much to share you guys and gals today, sadly.

But right now, along with many others, I have been participating in the waiting game! Fun stuff... [insert sarcastic remark here]. This game is not as "fun" as I thought it would be... Well, I guess I can TRY to look at it like I would any Hockey or Football game. :) In all honestly, this waiting game is very nerve-wracking for me.

"What are you talking about, Bethany?"
"The WDWCP!"

;)

I've applied and interviewed (January 27th), and now this I-want-to-pull-my-hair-out wait begins to see if my destiny is to be a CPer.

I wake up, eat breakfast, and check my e-mail everyday and almost freak out when I notice the number 1 pop up out of no where.

"This could be it!"

SIGH

It was Hallmark letting me know that they have a 3-day Valentine's Day sale this weekend on everything in store.

Go figure.

In the meantime, I'm still going to school and hanging out with my friends to pass the time. Well, it doesn't help that Maryland suffered a record breaking blizzard this past week, but that's a totally different story.

"What roles did you apply for?"

Good question! -claps obnoxiously- I applied for pretty much everything except Custodial. My favorite roles are as follows: Photopass, Attractions, Merch., and Hospiltality, but I have a funny feeling that I will QSFB (Quick Service Food and Beverage) if and/or when I get accepted.

Hopefully the waiting game will be over soon, and I'm able to make my next blog all about getting accepted with a video attached. :)

Have a Magical Day!
